In Poland, the most popular is the broad-leaved astragalus, most common wild species in nature.

The common name is huang qi (yellow leader) It is named after the color of the root. It is in this root that the active substances are concentrated, and it is from this root that it is brewed. infusion - which is the most popular a form of using the properties of this adaptogen. The root of Astragalus membranaceus contains flavonoids, which work m.in. anti-inflammatory, diuretic saponins, amino acids, glycosides and polysaccharides. There are also active substances such as choline, coumarin, betaine. Astragalus is also a rich source of minerals: it contains zinc, magnesium, iron, potassium and copper. Contains folic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid and glucuronic acid.

How does astragalus work?

Medicinal properties of astragalus have been known for thousands of years, and the research carried out confirms what was suspected in Chinese medicine. It is a plant with a profound effect on the immune system, improving the body's resistance and endurance. It is especially useful in cases of upper respiratory tract infections, heart diseases or digestive problems.. It has a strengthening effect and shortens the duration of illness. The immune system benefits both when fighting illness and when astragalus can also be used preventively.

The effect of astragalus on the nervous system is important. adaptogenic properties improve adaptation to the difficult conditions we are exposed to, including the body's resistance to stress factors. Research confirms that astragalus affects the bone marrow by increasing production stem cells - which accelerates the body's immune response, providing support even in the case of cancer.

Strengthening immunity is a major, but not the only, effect of astragalus. It also contains antioxidants, which slow down the aging process by preventing the proliferation of free radicals. For this reason, astragalus is also used in cosmetics. It is beneficial for skin regeneration. It affects appetite and metabolism, which is further evidence of its use in managing so-called "fatigue."lifestyle diseases.

How to use astragalus?

Astragalus membranaceus is most often found in ground form, which can be used to make an infusion or tea. In Chinese cuisine, it is also used as a thickener for soups and sauces.

Preparing the decoction involves pouring a glass of a spoonful of astragalus water and boiling for 10 minutes. You can drink up to 2 glasses a day. An alternative to this drink can also be tincture, which should be macerated for at least two weeks. Here, too, two daily doses can be taken, each of 5 ml.

If you're looking for a simpler and faster method, you can opt for astragalus capsules. These are taken two or three times a day, depending on the dosage of the specific supplement. When choosing this method, it's important to pay attention to the manufacturer's reputation, guaranteeing the purity of the ingredients. Each preparation may also differ in dosage and composition, but it's worth choosing supplements with the simplest possible ingredients, free from unnecessary additives.

Contraindications and side effects

Due to its action, it should not be used under any circumstances in cases of autoimmune diseases – it weakens the effect of immunosuppressants, also used after organ transplants. Using astragalus in such cases can even lead to transplant rejection, making it extremely dangerous.

Astragalus supplementation is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Astragalus may potentiate the effects of anticoagulants. Diabetics should exercise caution due to a possible drop in blood sugar levels, as well as those taking medications for hypertension, as astragalus may further lower blood pressure.

Astragalus root is considered safe to use and has no side effects. In cases of significant overdose, side effects may occur. symptoms such as headaches or sleep problems.

Summary

The healing properties of astragalus membranaceus tea have been known worldwide for generations, but in Poland it has not gained much popularity. It is worth considering it in your daily supplementation due to its simplicity and high safety. Considering its properties, astragalus can provide daily immune support, both for health and well-being.
