Activated carbon – beneficial effect on the human body

Posted by Kamil Siuda day

Medicinal charcoal comes in the form of black tablets. Most of you probably remember them from your childhood.

It is extracted from wood pulp at a temperature of 900 degrees Celsius and then activated using steam or strong acids. Historically, activated charcoal was most often used for diarrhea, but today it is also used in cosmetics. Activated charcoal helped wounds heal faster even in the time of Hippocrates, and African tribes still believe that this magical substance draws poison from wounds caused by the bites of poisonous snakes or scorpions.

Activated carbon application

Primarily, we know this remedy as a treatment for diarrhea. Activated charcoal is also effective in treating dangerous poisonings from chemicals and medications. It has the ability to bind toxins and bacteria, making it invaluable. It's important to note, however, that not every poisoning can be treated with activated charcoal. It's used for poisonings with parecetamol, salicylates, phenols, heavy metal salts, benzodiazepine derivatives, and nicotine. The product has a drying and absorbing effect on all secretions and bacteria. It's important to note that activated charcoal should only be used for short periods due to the undesirable absorption of digestive enzymes and vitamins.

Activated carbon is great for combating:

  • acne
  • blackheads
  • dandruff
  • constipation
  • greasy hair
  • allows you to whiten your teeth

Activated carbon used in cosmetics

By using activated charcoal, you'll eliminate skin imperfections, whiten your teeth, and eliminate the problem of oily hair. You can use it regardless of your skin type. Besides eliminating acne, activated charcoal brightens your complexion, making it look younger and radiant. It absorbs impurities without damaging enamel, making it a great teeth-whitening product. Simply add a pinch of activated charcoal to your toothbrush, add a drop of coconut oil, and start brushing. You'll notice the results after just one use. To get rid of oily hair, simply add one activated charcoal tablet to your shampoo and wash your hair twice a week with this mixture. Not only will you eliminate excess sebum, but your hair will also gain volume and be lifted from the roots. It's no wonder, then, that more and more women are seeking shampoos and conditioners containing activated charcoal.

In what form can we find activated carbon?

Due to its properties, activated carbon appears on store shelves frequently and in various forms. The products we can find that contain activated carbon are:

  • soaps
  • peelings
  • masks
  • hair shampoos
  • cleansing gels

Activated charcoal is most often used in cosmetics as a cleansing product. Regular use of activated charcoal helps combat blackheads, soothes skin inflammation, and leaves skin cleansed, firm, and radiant.

How to make a face mask based on activated carbon?

Of course, you can easily buy a ready-made mask containing activated charcoal, but you can also make one yourself at home. This mask is especially recommended for oily and acne-prone skin. Apply it to the skin and wait for it to set. Then, after a few minutes, remove it like removing a band-aid. This mask will perfectly cleanse pores and miraculously exfoliate the skin, removing blackheads and dead skin cells. After using this mask, your complexion will be clean and fresh, visibly firmer and tighter, and incredibly smooth to the touch. It's worth making sure you always have activated charcoal in your home, as its properties place it very high on the list of natural beauty products.
