What is an easily digestible diet?

The main goal of the easily digestible diet is to eliminate hard-to-digest foods. This group primarily includes plants.
legumes, cruciferous vegetables, vegetables that cause flatulence, such as hot peppers, onions, garlic, or even asparagus. It is also advisable to limit
dietary fiber, mainly cereal products.

In a light diet, it is also recommended to completely eliminate grains. Therefore, people whose doctor has prescribed this type of diet should avoid whole-grain bread. Their diet should also exclude sunflower or pumpkin seeds. Coarse grains, sweet carbonated drinks, alcohol, and, of course, dried fruit, cherries, and
plums.

However, a light diet should include as many cooked or baked fruits and vegetables as possible. Recommended choices include potatoes, carrots, beets, spinach, pumpkin, green beans, and peeled tomatoes.
Among the permitted fruits: apples, apricots, peaches, oranges and melons.

If you're planning to follow a light diet, you should avoid fried foods. Eliminate fatty foods and processed foods. The basic cooking methods for a light diet are boiling, steaming, and baking.

Who is the diet intended for?
easily digestible?

A light diet is typically recommended by doctors after surgical procedures, such as appendectomy or gallbladder removal. It's also a good way to eat for people with digestive issues. It's also helpful if you suffer from bloating or have an irritated digestive tract, for example, after an intestinal infection.

An easily digestible diet is also an excellent choice for older people, whose digestive system naturally slows down and is less able to digest foods high in dietary fiber, fried foods, or fatty foods.

An easily digestible diet is also recommended for anyone who has observed increased secretion of gastric juice after a meal – so-called gastrointestinal reflux – and during convalescence, when the body should focus mainly on regeneration.

The most important rules of the diet
easily digestible

The principles of an easily digestible diet include products
recommended and prohibited products. The first group includes primarily cooked and baked delicate vegetables, such as young green beans, ripe fruit, cold vegetable oils, white bread, and products
dairy products, e.g. natural yogurt and other easily digestible products.

It is also recommended to limit gas-producing vegetables, hot spices, legumes and legumes, whole-grain bread, whole grains, and pasta. However, in a light diet
The most important thing is to observe your body. Just because onions may be harmful to one person doesn't mean you can't eat them. It's best to eliminate foods through trial and error. Carefully record your meal composition every day and keep a journal of observations. Note how your digestive system reacts to a specific food. If you feel well after eating 1-2 slices of bread,
wholemeal, you don't have to give it up.

However, remember that large amounts of dietary fiber can cause stomach problems. Therefore, try to compose your diet so that it is dominated by easily digestible foods rich in minerals.
Ideal are barley, baked vegetables, diluted juices, white rice, small pastas, lean meat and fish.

How to adjust the calorie intake of your diet to
your needs?

It's best to adjust your diet's caloric intake based on your energy needs. You can calculate this yourself using
from the formula:

CPM = PPM X PAL, where

CPM (total metabolic rate)

PPM (basal metabolic rate)

PAL (physical activity index).

You can also calculate your basal metabolic rate in
simple way by substituting the appropriate values into the formula below.

PPM (women) = (10 x body weight [kg]) + (6.25 x
height [cm]) - (5 x [age]) – 161

PPM (men) = (10 x body weight [kg]) + (6.25 x
height [cm]) - (5 x [age]) + 5.

Example:

PPM = (10 × 70) + (6.25 × 160) -
(5 × 33) -161

PPM = 1374.

In turn, constants are defined for the PAL coefficient
values:

  • 1.2 – low activity –
    sedentary lifestyle, lack of physical activity, daily housework,
  • 1.4 – average activity
    physical – exercises about 2-3 times a week, daily housework or
    moderate physical activity (e.g. walking for about 30-60 minutes),
  • 1.9 – very active lifestyle
    – intense, competitive sports, daily training.

CPM = 1374 × 1.4

CPM = ~1900 kcal.
